With now just two months until this year’s NatWest Island Games in Bermuda, the sponsorship deal will see Team Shetland wearing Malakoff Limited branded tracksuits for the first time. The financial support provided by Malakoff Limited will help fund the Team’s travel across the Atlantic this year. This year’s sponsorship agreement also extends into 2014 to help the Team with early preparations for Jersey in 2015.
Managing Director of Malkoff Limited, Dougie Stevenson, commented – “We’re a long established Shetland firm with a strong community presence and want to show our support for Shetland competitors at this year’s Games. We’re supporting Team Shetland all the way and wish every athlete the best of luck with their preparations in the coming weeks.”
Chairman of Shetland Island Games Association, Andrew Inkster, responded – “Team Shetland is delighted to have Malakoff Limited with us. Their sponsorship will help to reduce the costs for our athletes at what will be our most expensive Games yet. The support of a well known and successful local company such as Malakoff Limited is a great boost for the Team as we prepare for this year’s Games.”
Last Monday also saw the closing date for entries for all competing islands, exactly two months before the Opening Ceremony in Hamilton, Bermuda on Saturday 13th July. All the Shetland team are now officially entered in this years’ Games, with the final team list totalling 45 individuals, competing in eight sports – athletics, cycling, golf, sailing, shooting, squash, swimming and triathlon.
